ConvertCoal, Inc.
ConvertCoal, Inc. has developed new proprietary coal-to-liquids process technologies to
convert sub-bituminous and lignite Low Rank Coal (LRC) into synthetic crude oil (SCO) and
upgraded clean-coal fuel. The unique CCI process resolves key technical
limitations inhibiting the commercial viability of LRC conversion to
refinery-ready SCO and environmentally acceptable clean-coal fuel for power
generation.

Domestic Oil Supply Security
Based on current LRC production, up to 2 million barrels per day of domestic synthetic crude oil can be produced by operating the new CCI coal conversion process at existing LRC power plants. This is equivalent to producing one quarter of the current domestic oil production and ten percent of the current oil demand in the USA. The CCI process yield of synthetic crude oil product matching midrange crude oil refinery feedstock quality is 16 - 18-w% of the feed-coal (on water and ash-free basis) equivalent to 0.7 - 0.8-barrel oil per ton low-rank coal.

Efficient, Cleaner Energy Supply
With the enabling CCI process technology, the large domestic LRC resource can simultaneously provide a sustainable 200-year supply of SCO for
motor fuel production and clean coal for electric power supply while substantially improving the energy conversion efficiency and
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.
The co-product yield of clean-coal fuel for power generation is approximately 65% of the feed-coal energy.
The CCI process typically removes two-thirds or more of the sulfur, most of the mercury and all the water from LRC.
The produced clean-coal fuel therefore has substantially higher heating value and lower emissions that can meet
the next generation emissions standards.
