CCI Technologies
CCI utilizes our technologies to convert low-rank coal (LRC) into valuable and clean burning fuels.  Our proprietary multi-stage process converts lignite and sub-bituminous LRC into high-rank equivalent clean-coal fuel by drying and pyrolysis.  The CCI Process also produces a high quality Synthetic Crude oil product.

CCI Process *
CCI's process is applicable to most low-sulfur LRC containing more than 30 wt% water and 32 wt% volatile matter.  In the process, LRC is milled to ¼ x ½-inch, then dried and pyrolyzed at about 1,000°F to recover approximately half of the volatile matter as coal-tar oil.  The oil can be hydrotreated to obtain a Synthetic Crude oil for refining of motor fuels.  Byproduct pyrolysis gas is used internally in the CCI process, which also recaptures a significant amount of byproduct water for use in the power plant.  Click here for more information and flow diagrams of CCI's process.

The combination of drying and pyrolysis results in a clean-coal product with 40+% higher heating density than the feed coal, 4% - 7% higher boiler efficiency, and emissions reductions of approximately 4% - 7% CO2, 66% sulfur, and 90% of the volatile mercury.  Power generating boilers in many cases thus will be able to meet the 2010 U.S. Clean Air Interstate Rules for SO2 and Hg emissions.

CCI Commercialization *
CCI envisions locating 10,000-t/d SC2 plants coupled with 500-MW PC-fired power plants.  The CCI plant produces 5,000 t/d of clean-coal for the power plant, 8,000 bbl/d of Synthetic Crude oil [24-API-gravity after hydrotreating], and 3,000-t/d water.  Certain fractions of the coal-tar-oil may find niche markets with added value for coal-tar chemical intermediates.
